Fair Dealing Week: An opportunity to educate and advocate.
Fri. Feb. 13, 2026
Fair Dealing is an exception in Canadian copyright law that allows the use of copyright-protected works such as books, journal articles, and audiovisual materials without permission from the copyright owner or payment of fees, provided that certain conditions are met. U of W students, faculty, and staff benefit from fair dealing throughout the academic year to access and share the resources needed to achieve their educational objectives.
Learn how to apply fair dealing at University of Winnipeg by reading the Fair Dealing Guidelines on the Copyright Office website.
If you’ve got 2 minutes to spare, celebrate Fair Dealing Week by watching our video Why Fair Dealing Matters.
